Agent Hill thought she had prepared herself for the archer's reaction. She was well aware of his attachment to Romanov, and half-expected him to quite literally shoot the messenger. She was trained to handle shock and bewilderment and at least a dozen different established patterns of violent traumatic response, to incapacitate the threat if necessary, if he posed a danger to himself or the situation in his response. But what he did was completely unexpected. He did not freeze in shock and surprise, nor did he snap into a violent rage or become bewildered. He simply set his face in a hard-lined grimace of determination and was gone, running off without a single word of response. He had known.
She frowned at the implications. Something was afoot here. Something much bigger than she had anticipated. Something Nick Fury would be quite eager to uncoverů.
